Greetings members,
It’s been 6 months since the last update from the board, but we’ve been busy in that time, so sit back and take in some of the incredible updates we’re able to share!
Past events:
Birdie Babes 2025 was a fantastic success!
Clare Thomas undertook her first event as TD and supported by some fine woodwork craftsmanship from David Thomas, they absolutely blew it out of the park. The amount of positive stories from the day was a testament to the effort they both put in to run a tremendous event.
Well done Clare and David!!
Course works:
Athllon Park
- As many south Canberrans will know the ACT government has committed to fixing pathways and duplicating the main road next to the disc golf course. We’ve been advised the initial work to expand the footpaths will start in July 2025 and run for approximately 6 months. There might be some minor foot traffic detours in place, but overall, there should be no impact to the playability of the course.
- More excitingly, after discussions with multiple government planning entities I can announce the club has been verbally approved to install tee pad and tee signs at Athllon Park. We’ll be taking the next few months to finalise placements of the infrastructure to gain the required building permits and elevate this course.
Weston Park
- As a direct follow on from the approval of tee pad infrastructure at Athllon, we’ve also been given approval to proceed with planning at Weston Park. We are actively looking at how this might work with a view of Nationals being held in Canberra in 2026 and what the best course of action will be for that event and the long-term use of the park – a watch this space.
- The replacement tee signs for the changes to hole 10 and hole 11 haven’t been forgotten. We’re trying to maximise the efficiency or bulk ordering and have these lined up in the same order as the Athllon tee signs, which are now proceeding.
Eddison Park
- The fallen trees have been reported and we’re waiting for a general clean-up of the park.
- The damaged tee pads on 10 and 16 are out for quotation to get fixed and have pavers installed around them.
- The faded and damaged sign on hole 11 will also be part of the new tee sign order.
- We’ll endeavour to get all this moving prior to Spring Sling 2025.
Other exciting announcements
- A new school course is on the horizon! Stromlo High School in Waramanga are looking to install baskets in the near future. The design is based off work our life member Todd Nowack did in the early 2020s.
Club Days:
The splitting of grades in 4 – A, B, C and D to accommodate the fantastic turnouts we’ve had over the past few years has worked really well, enabling more players to compete across each of the divisions. The end of season 1 is quickly approaching this weekend, but the fun won’t stop as we roll straight into season 2 which will take us through to the end of the year.
Prizes and entry will stay the same for the remainder of the year:
- Club day costs
- Basic club day registration has increased from $6 to $8
- CTP and Scratch buy-in remain at $2 each
- Ace pot buy-in remains at $1
- Club day winners
- Grade winners will receive a $20 club voucher
- CTP winners will receive a $10 club voucher
- Scratch and Ace pot remain as cash payouts to winners
- Season winners
- 1st place will receive a $40 club voucher
- 2nd place will receive a $20 club voucher
We’ve also heard the feedback and accepted the mid-season re-jig of some players gradings wasn’t communicated as well as it could’ve been. We thank members for their feedback and look to improve this moving forward.
